Rubanda District, Uganda – In a remarkable display of community engagement and empowerment, Students from the Department of Economics and Statistics at Kabale University embarked on an outreach program aimed at uplifting the lives of women in Rubanda District. The event, which took place on June 28, 2023, witnessed a vibrant exchange of developmental ideas and a heartfelt commitment to women’s empowerment.

Under the guidance of their dedicated faculty, including the esteemed Assoc Prof.Tamwesigire Caleb (Faculty Dean), the students set out to fulfill their mission of sharing their knowledge and expertise with the local community. The Department of Economics and Statistics has made it a tradition to educate and sensitize surrounding communities on various economic dimensions, and this outreach marked yet another significant milestone in their endeavors.



The day kicked off with an inspiring address by Assoc Prof.Tamwesigire Caleb (Faculty Dean), who reminded the Lecturers of their vital role in teaching, student learning, research, and publications. He emphasized the university’s commitment to community engagement and encouraged the students to actively participate in the day’s discussions, fostering a vibrant atmosphere of collaboration and creativity.

Armed with a wealth of knowledge, the third-year students passionately conveyed essential developmental ideas to their target audience – the women of Rubanda District. They focused on topics such as successful group formation, financial management, the benefits of women’s engagement in groups, and the factors that can lead to their collapse. The students, together with their lecturers, stressed the importance of active participation, proper budgeting, accountability, and risk management within these groups.


Moreover, the interaction expanded to highlight the significance of investing in education and the future benefits it holds for their children. The students emphasized the need to equip the younger generation with knowledge and skills that would enable them to become self-sufficient and thrive in their respective endeavors. This dedication to education and community development showcased the true essence of Kabale University and its commitment to empowering the less privileged and non-educated citizens of Rubanda District.

The women of Rubanda District warmly welcomed the students’ visit and expressed their gratitude for Kabale University’s initiative in sharing their knowledge and programs with the community. They eagerly requested regular visits to continually enrich them with valuable business information, reaffirming their unwavering support for education and their commitment to forming objective and sustainable groups.
